After visiting Rome, Florence, Venice, Pisa, Cinque Terre, and Genoa, we decided it’s time for our Top 10 Italy pictures. Think you got us beat? We’d love to see your pictures! Send ’em over and we’ll post and tweet them.
The Piazza del Duomo, with the Leaning Tower in the background, stands out against a crystal clear blue sky. This picture was taken from the baptistry.
We took this picture while crossing one of the many bridges. The gondoliers crisscross the canal in front of a quilt of different colored homes.
8) Cinque Terre
The sun set behind Riomaggiore just as we reached the top of the town. The sky was a vivid canvas of purples and pinks.
The Ponte Vecchio is one of the highlights of this wonderful city north of Rome. The best view of the bridge is actually from the Uffizi. You can’t take pictures of anything in the museum, but you can point your camera out the window and snap this one.
6) Cinque Terre
This picture is of Vernazza, the fourth town if you’re starting in the south. We took this picture on the hike in from Corniglia, as we were descending into the town.
The sun hit the corner of the Leaning Tower right after we finished our lunch. Forget the silly pictures where tourists hold up the building. The tower itself is quite beautiful, and then sun framed it just right.
Technically, I may be cheating here. This is really 6 pictures in one – a panoramic view of St. Peter’s Square and the Basilica. But it came out looking like one seamless photo.
The Duomo of Basilica di Santa Maria del Fiore dominates the entire city. We took this picture from the Bell Tower next to the Duomo, which is perhaps the best view of the top of the basilica and the city behind it.
We took this picture from the Rialto, the most famous of the bridges that cross the many canals. It was a hot day, so all of the restaurants by the canal had their umbrellas up, creating a sea of red next to a canal of blue.
Was there any doubt another Rome picture would be number 1 on our list? This is another panaromic – 5 pictures of the Colosseum combined for one encompassing view.
